From June 9–14, 2025, VR Nevada welcomed an inspiring group of Deaf and hard of hearing youth for the Beyond the Deaf Home summer camp to the campus of UNLV. The week was filled with learning, growth, and unforgettable experiences that left campers motivated to carry their new skills and confidence into the future.

Learning and Leadership

Campers dove into important topics that will help them prepare for adulthood. Sessions covered everything from planning for the future with IEPs and ITPs, to financial literacyassistive technology, and self-advocacy. Guest speakers shared valuable insights on independence and intercommunication, while students asked thoughtful questions about tools and devices that can support independent living.

Each session was designed to help participants build practical knowledge while strengthening leadership skills, confidence, and self-awareness.

Fun Beyond the Classroom

Of course, camp wasn’t all about work! Evenings were filled with exciting outings that gave campers a chance to relax and bond with one another. Highlights included a pizza and swimming partydinner at Buca di Beppo, attending the world-renowned Cirque du Soleil show Mystère, and cheering on the Las Vegas Aviators baseball team. These shared experiences helped foster friendships and memories that will last long after camp ended.

A Lasting Impact

By the end of the week, campers left with more than just knowledge—they gained a stronger sense of community, pride, and the belief that they can thrive both personally and professionally. Beyond the Deaf Home continues to show that when Deaf and hard of hearing youth are given opportunities to grow, connect, and dream big, their potential is limitless.
