Michelle Lacayanga came to BVR on January 31, 2018, in need of services to become a Pastry Chef. Michelle’s dream was to go to school and learn the bakery trade, but she needed the help of BVR, so her IPE was written for a full-time Pastry Chef. When she was asked about her typical day she responded, “I wake up in the morning imagining my future; baking bread, cakes and cookies and all of the other wonderful pastry sweets that puts a smile on people’s faces.”
Michelle’s disability is unilateral vocal fold paralysis following a surgical removal of a laryngeal removal. Once she started her schooling at CSN, she set out to accomplish good things. Her positive attitude and unwavering determination to succeed was the candle that lit her path.
Michelle started attending the College of Southern Nevada in August 2018 and graduated with high honors on December 13, 2020. In April 2022, her journey took her to Florida for a bakery internship, however, that didn’t work out, so she came back to Las Vegas. Finally on February 7, 2022, she was hired as a Baker’s Apprentice at Suzuya Patisseri located in North Las Vegas.
With many miles traveled and heartbreaking rejections Michelle endured from employers, her relentless drive to succeed finally paid off. She is now flourishing, doing exactly what she sat out to accomplish back in 2018. She is painting the sky with rainbows of sugar and cinnamon and raindrops of cookies and cakes as a testimonial of success.
